Vienna, a young Chihuahua mix. Picked up by Miami Dade Animal Control on a cruelty case. She was dropped out of a window from a second story building in her pet carrier, on purpose. When she was released to us on a medical hold. We took her to our veterinarian and when they x-ray’d her leg they found a fracture. At this time, it was just a few weeks before Christmas and we had limited dates to schedule her surgery, so we had to wait 2 weeks before we could get a surgery date. In a cast she went and bed rest it was! The day before her surgery, the surgeon wanted new xrays…the fracture had healed perfectly and a few days later Vienna was adopted by the veterinarian who treated her.

Chance was a 8 week old Pit Bull puppy that was found on the Rail Road Tracks in Fort Lauderdale. Broward County Shelter was called out to pick him up. Once they saw him they noticed he was missing part of his foot. He was immediately started on antibiotics and pain medications. I saw him in one of the kennels at the County shelter while he waited for his “stray time” to expire. During that time, one of the people who works at the shelter filled out the paperwork to adopt him. We had our veterinarian evaluate his options and it was determined that the best option was for his leg to be removed in order for him to have a normal life. We covered the cost of his surgery. We also cared for him post op. He had a tough time and needed to be closely monitored. It was a labor of love.

Chip was a kitten that was found on the streets. The people found him thought he had been hurt and brought him to us. We quickly realized he had a cleft lip. I was able to bottlefeed him until he was big enough for his lip to be repaired. He was adopted into a loving home.

Lily is a 4 month old, 3 lb Teacup Toy Fox Terrier who was surrendered to us because she was having seizures. We were told Lily was accidently dropped or kicked by a young child. She was examined and evaluated by our vets office and got the all clear after we had her under observation for 30 days. Lily now lives under the watchful eyes of a veterinary technician who adopted her and will love her, and protect her for the rest of her life.

Jade was a sweet, 5 month old kitten that was pick up right off the streets. Someone found her and asked us for help. We saw her and had to help her immediately! Her leg was in horrible condition. THe right front leg was broken and the tissue was horribly infected. When we held Jade, she purred and sat quietly in my lap as we rushed her to our vets office in horror. Obviously, this was something she had been living with for quite a while.

Hank, Heidi & Hollis were found in a dumpster at a gas station and were picked up by our County Shelter. They were only a few days old. We got them when they were less than a week old and started bottle feeding them. During this process we found out that Hank had a esophageal diverticulum, which meant when he would nurse from his bottle, it would come up through is nose due to a pocket that had developed in his esophagus. This started when he was about 3 weeks old. We went head and got him weaned, as difficult as that was as well. He continued to lose little amounts of food or water, mostly during playtime, (it would just kinda plop out!) that collected in the pocket in his esophagus. I took the x rays to a specialist thinking he may need surgery. To my surprise, the specialist said he would probably grow out of it ~ and he ultimately did!
